The island of Phuket lies in the Andaman Sea
in southern Thailand. It has the only island of the status of a province Changwat.
There are many beaches, the target of tourist package tourists from around the world.
Phuket , formerly known as Thalang and, in Western sources, Junk Ceylon (a corruption of the Malay Tanjung Salang, "Cape Salang") is one of the southern provinces (changwat) of Thailand.
Neighbouring provinces are (from north clockwise) Phang Nga andKrabi, but as Phuket is an island it has no land boundaries.
Phuket, which is approximately the size of Singapore, is Thailand’s largest island.
